Indian Railway Minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw took to his X (formerly Twitter) account to share exciting news about the new Vande Bharat Sleeper Express, now renamed ‘Namo Bharat Rapid Rail. He detailed its features in a series of posts, highlighting the advancements and comforts that passengers can expect.
The Vande Metro, another upcoming service to be launched on Sept 17 of this year, is designed to connect major cities within a distance of 100–250 km. The first basic unit of this train, consisting of four coaches, was rolled out by RCF Kapurthala in April 2024. According to the Minister, the Vande Metro trains will start running next month.

Here’s a closer look at what’s inside the Vande Bharat Sleeper Express:
The train is built for speed, reaching up to 160 kmph. It has 16 coaches in total, including 11 AC three-tier, four AC two-tier, and one AC first-class coach. Together, they offer 823 berths for passengers.
Railway minister of India also give us a hint that the train is all about comfort. It has advanced lighting, USB charging ports, and even a dedicated dog box. There’s plenty of room for luggage, especially in the Driving Trailer Coaches.
Hungry? No problem. Indian Railway Minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw shares that the train has large, medium, and small pantries serving fresh meals. There are fixed and foldable snack tables, making dining easy and enjoyable.
Safety comes first in this brand new train. Ashwini Vaishnaw mentions that the train’s aerodynamic cab is strong enough to withstand impacts up to 36 km/h. It also has crash buffers and anti-climbers to keep passengers safe.
Comfort is key with the train’s upgraded HVAC system. It ensures even air conditioning throughout, so everyone stays cool and comfortable, mentions the Railway Minister. The train is equipped with a Black Box. It captures real-time data, which helps improve safety by analyzing the train’s performance continuously.
The train is built with top safety standards. It has a Vigilance Control Device that the driver must operate every minute, a Fire Detection System, and HL3 safety compliance with a 15-minute response time.
The Railway Minister of India, Ashwini Vaishnaw also adds that the crew is well taken care of, too. The train has fully air-conditioned loco cabs with dedicated toilets, helping the staff stay comfortable and focused. Passengers have access to 51 well-designed toilets with options for Euro, Oriental, and combination styles. First-class passengers can even use shower facilities.
Hygiene is a top priority. The train uses bio-digester tanks that are cleaned and updated every 6 months. Plus, each coach has a 30-litre garbage compactor to keep things tidy.
